Classes are small, so they fill fast. Please register early.

Fees are payable to the instructor when you sign up.

If we cancel a class, we will of course refund your fees. If you cancel, fees are refundable up to seven days before the class starts.

Trendsetters Design Studio

Sewing Basics I

Tuesdays, 6-9 pm
August 31, September 7-21 (4 weeks)

September 28, October 5, 19 and 26 (4 weeks, off October 12)

If you're a true beginner, this is your class. You'll learn to:

  • use a sewing machine;
  • read a pattern;
  • cut out the fabric;
  • sew your garment.

You'll learn to do things right, from the start. But you'll make your own choices. About color, fabric – because starting right now, on your projects, you're the designer!

So you even decide how picky you want to be about doing things perfectly. See, we think sewing is about fun and creativity. Not pleasing the Perfect Police.

Sewing Happy Hour

Formerly Sewing Basics II – but also good for adding skills at any level. If you've done Basic I, or you have basic sewing knowledge, you're good!

There might be wine. ;-) Or chocolate. ;-) Or both. Especially if you bring some. ;-)

Wednesdays, 6-9pm

Need help with a project? Work on anything you like – and get help in an informal setting.

You do need some sewing knowledge, but Jill's got lots of experience. She's been doing this for 6 years and likes some company while she works on her own projects.

You can even stay for lunch if you like! We usually get takeout from Nacho Mama's.

Love-To-Sew Club

We've had several people ask us to bring back the sewing club. Sew, here it is – with a new name, for anyone who loves sewing.

Learn new techniques. See the latest fabrics and new patterns. Try out new notions. And so much more – all for just $10 a time!

(That's the steal deal of the century, and if it wasn't already in the printed newsletter, our webmaster would have been sorely tempted to raise the price without telling Cindy).

So RSVP fast before that happens! Also, we encourage you to bring in your sew-and-tells to inspire the rest of us.

Take your sewing creativity and fashion sense into the fall! In each month's session, you'll meet as a class on two Saturday afternoons, two weeks apart. Plus, you'll have a private session with Cathe in between that does two things:

  1. Fits your already-packed schedule somewhere that works for you (and Cathe, of course);
  2. Lets you and Cathe focus on the techniques you want her to show you – and go faster, on your own, on the ones you know well.

Painted Weekender Bag

A great first project for beginners, this roomy, lined bag is perfect for the man or woman in your life! Meanwhile, you pick up the basics of two practical arts in this hands-on, paint-and-sew class.

Start with your choice of a dog or cat silhouette, then apply classic watercolor technique. A week later, come back and sew the bag together.

At the end, present the finished product to the oohs and ahhs of your bag's intended recipient.

Silk is great for the holidays, whether you wear it or use itto decorate your holiday table. In this class, you'll use silk dupioni to make a patchwork scarf or a festive table runner.
